Webcomics

This is the last entry, team! Oh, what a time its been. This last entry will focus on the comics medium of the modern age, webcomics. I am a accustomed to webcomics and I do read them on the weekly, on the app Line Webtoon. This app is for comic creators of all skill levels to share their stories for a very receptive and hungry readership. The creator on the Webtoon platform vary in artistic experience and writing ability, the majority of the content is “reader bait”, in my opinion. The average user of the app is between the age of 13 to 23 and female, a way to grab the majority of the community’s attention is to give the slightest inkling of a love triangle and the webcomic will become overwhelmingly popular, and will be excruciatingly spread out for 90+ chapters, regardless of the quality of the writing and art. I do I have MANY problems with Webtoons comics community, but regardless
on how I feel you’ll find a diamond in the piles and piles of terrible terrible content, of course if you search long enough, like what I read, Witch Creek Road. Witch Creek Road is illustrated by Kenan Halilovic and written by Garth “the geek”, on the site you can make your username anything you want, so his last name remains a mystery. Witch Creek Road is about group of high schoolers on the worst night of their young lives, meeting a herd of other worldly carnivorous she-beasts. The story is nonlinear in its pacing, going from being viciously attacked to taking a look at their menial everyday lives in high school, to get to know each individual ensemble character, who’s just as important as the last. The story is The Evil Dead esc, a humorously obnoxious gorey romp through the woods with teenagers lacking common sense, a very tropey trip. There are many times where I’ve yelled at the characters for mindlessly getting themselves into more trouble and getting severely punished for doing so. I think that’s a sign of good and effective writing, getting the reader to furiously react to elements in the story. The plot in itself separates from the other unfulfilling mind numbing comics on this app. Also the art is wonderfully professional in the sea of half-assed fame seeking “illustrators”, its utterly refreshing to see some who knows what they’re doing and alters it to make it their own. I like what they’re doing, all the fun campy horror elements and the creativity keep me coming back for more. Can’t wait for the next chapter.
